Immigrant Council of Ireland holds ELI Dissemination Seminar
The Immigrant Council of Ireland held its dissemination seminar in the mansion house in Dublin on the 8th of September. Attendees included members of the Department of Justice and of the Irish police force as well as from the Health Service Executive. Legal practitioners from the legal aid board as well as solicitors and barristers also attended. Academics and independent researchers also attended. NGOs such as Women’s Aid, Children’s Rights Alliance and other immigrant support organisations also attended. The ICI had the honour to have the Swedish rapporteur on Human Trafficking Ms Kajsa Wahlberg also attend and she spoke about early legal advice in the context of the assistance given to victims in Sweden after identification. The seminar also debated the EU Victim’s Rights Directive which must be transposed by November 16th as well as the new Sexual Offences Bill due to be published in Ireland this Autumn. Catherine Cosgrave, Legal Services Manager gave a presentation about ELI and the work of the Immigrant Council with victims of trafficking. Everyone agreed that it was a very fruitful and informative seminar.
